Cafe Royal Books
The zine series published by Cafe Royal Books, an independent UK-based publisher, presents a wide range of work by photographers focusing on themes such as social movements, protests, street culture, music, and folklore, with a particular emphasis on the UK and Ireland. The series focuses on a wide range of British and Irish photographers focusing on themes such as social movements, protest, street culture, music and folklore.
Central to the series is a rare documentation of the late 1980s and 1990s, a period of cultural upheaval. The series delves deeply into the various cultural scenes captured by the cameras of many photographers, both well-known and unknown, as well as the artists and people who gathered to carry on these scenes.
The collection is particularly rich in its documentation of music and street culture, capturing the sound systems of street parties, young people gathering at nightclubs, the frenzy of raves, the punk scene that emerged in England, and the true faces of the artists representing the music scene that began in Madchester, as well as the legendary Factory Records, are captured. In addition, a work on Goldie’s rave parties and the hip-hop scene in New York City (NYC) has also been published, making this an extremely valuable collection that documents the subcultural moment of the time from multiple perspectives.
