[DIY Shoulder Pouch]
This is the large-size version of the “DIY Shoulder Pouch” released as part of the 2023 collaboration between AFP and WHEV. The material used this time is thin lamb leather. The reason we chose leather is that a few years ago, Shiga-chan acquired some leather—which was unsellable due to scratches and stains—from a leather craftsman she knew, and used it to create shoulder bags and pouches as AFP items. When Shiga-chan works with it, you’d never guess that the leather was on the verge of being discarded; I was impressed not only by the design sense but also by the excellent concept behind the items. One day, Megane came across a listing for leather similar to the kind Shiga-chan had used. I pitched the idea to Shiga-chan, and that’s how this product came to be. Although it’s made of leather, we’ve designed it to be lightweight for ease of use. While Megane manufactures parts like the shoulder strap, the majority of the item is hand-printed and handcrafted by Shiga-chan. To prevent the flap from lying flat against the back of the pouch, we’ve used a sewing machine to create a decorative stitch pattern.
