[DIY Sparkly★AW Logo Circle Pouch]
We’ve created a collaboration version of AFP’s classic, popular “DIY Circle Pouch.” The sparkly design was inspired by a handmade belt by Shiga-chan that was on display at the punk shop [DORKS NOT DEAD], where she works. It was a one-of-a-kind piece featuring fancy glittery stickers applied all over the leather portion of a slim ring belt. That belt embodied Shiga-chan’s unique, free-spirited, and flexible way of thinking—unbound by conventional wisdom. And it had a flashiness that most people would shy away from—a spirit that Megane recognized as embodying the DIY PUNK ethos. This very concept is the essence of Shiga-chan. Megane decided to incorporate it into a product, immediately began working on a sample, applied the design to a circle pouch, and presented the idea to Shiga-chan. Starting from that initial draft, Shiga-chan and I brainstormed ideas together—adding a core material to prevent the vinyl from tearing, testing and refining the vinyl’s thickness and color, and so on. The identity Shiga-chan created was reborn as a new item through this collaboration. For the front, keeping flashiness in mind, Megane hand-drew and printed a deliberately simple, reimagined version of the AFP logo. A simple design was also printed on the back. Each piece is hand-printed and handcrafted by Shiga-chan and Megane.
